5 Tips for Working from Home During Quarantine

By Daniel Alexander

During the current state of the world, the safest place to be right now is in the confines of your home. Working from home has become the norm for most these days, and to some,  it can be very difficult to find working from home as productive as being in an office. Creatives can luckily work anywhere. However,  this can lead to creative genius just as quickly as it can lead to distractions. So, here are 5 tips we’ve learned from working at the home office.

Establish a routine.
We as humans are creatures of habit and that’s partly because a routine helps us mentally and physically to prepare for just about everything. Whether it’s having a cup of coffee every morning, doing some morning stretches, or taking your dog on a walk, creating a morning routine can greatly help you get ready for the workday at home.

Get dressed in the morning.
Always get washed, put makeup on ( if appropriate), brush your hair, put on your favorite scent/cologne, and dress as though you are going to the office or a meeting. If you wish to practice the famous Superman pose in front of your mirror, do so because it helps you feel confident and also lowers cortisol levels. Dressing up makes you feel better. It’s also a sure way to avoid making a fool of yourself being caught out in your pajamas – or worse, tracks – if a colleague or client suddenly wants a Zoom or Skype meeting and you have forgotten to turn off the video.

Thought: Karl Lagerfeld once said: “Sweatpants are a sign of defeat. You lost control of your life so you bought some sweatpants.”

Create an office ambiance.
One of the perks of working from home is being able to create a personalized work area in a way you may not be able to at the office. It’s all about creating a cozy yet productive space that is perfectly suited to your individual working style. Add elements that promote a calming or inspiring environment, such as fresh flowers, houseplants, task lighting, candles, or beautiful crystals. Which leads us to the next point.

Find a great chair.
Having a supportive chair is one of the most underrated tips for working from home. No one is productive if they’re not comfortable. Working from home, you might think laying down is best. But – mmm – nope! That’s very unproductive, and not too mention dangerous: the risk of falling back asleep is real. So we suggest finding a great chair. This is one of those home splurges that can go a long way in keeping you comfortable and happy.  Find the best chair possible, one that supports the lower back and also fits beside your desk or table.

Always follow Grandma’s advice!
Last but not least: don’t forget to wash your hands for 20 seconds in warm water, cough into your arm, stay in bed if you don’t feel good, and eat some of Grandma’s classic recipes to keep healthy! After all, Grandma always knows best, and these times are no exception.
