Your Content Sucks

By Sack Lunch Agency

We’re not gonna sugarcoat this for you because we care. If your content is made up of poorly lit photos taken by your “photographer” friend and posted with a generic caption and a bad filter… IT SUCKS. And honestly, bad content simply won’t cut it for your brand.

To build credibility, engagement, and brand awareness you need to catch and retain the attention of real people. At Sack Lunch Agency we are dedicated to creating delicious quality content that makes people stop scrolling. And we want to open doors for your brand by helping you understand what quality content in, how it works and why.

Here are a few tips on what types of posts you should avoid posting on social media to avoid losing followers.

Overly promotional content.

Have you ever scrolled through your feed and came across content aiming to sell you a product or service? Sometimes it seems like harassment and even though as a brand or company that’s what you want to achieve there are ways to create content that isn’t as overly direct. Instead of using social media platforms to broadcast, try and use it to join conversations that are happening. Listen to what your audience is already discussing, read what influencers are writing then pitch your content to respond to those cues.

Consider the 5-3-2 rule, which serves as a guide for every 10 posts you publish:

5 should be curation – sharing other pages’ content

3 should be creation – relevant content you’ve produced yourself

2 should be humanization – personal, fun and relaxed content that humanizes your brand.

Posts with spelling or grammatical errors

Making a mistake in your content whether it be a simple typo or grammatically incorrect this could look as if you don’t care or in other-wards unprofessional. So when drafting your content its always a good idea to proof-read and triple check your copy before you publish.

Political or Religious Content

People have very strong feelings when it comes to religion and politics and sometimes your audience may not always agree with “your brands” point of view on that subject matter. This can make it hard for you to connect with them when publishing these types of posts. Unless you are a political or religious organization which even then it is advised to proceed with caution as you don’t want to feel pushy with such beliefs. Avoid posting anything controversial – otherwise, you do run the risk of losing followers.

Irrelevant Viral Posts

As tempting as it can be because viral videos are continuously trending and are fun to share, chances are your audience has already seen said viral video and the odds of them being relatable to your content is slim-none. These viral videos could dumb down your brand and the rest of your activity.

Negative or Derogatory content

No matter how tempting it is to reply to a distasteful post or comment remember the reputation of your brand is on the line and you wouldn’t want to tarnish that now would you? So leave those clap-backs as inside jokes between you and your colleagues.

Brand-inconsistent content

Social media channels are an extension of your brand so all your content should relate to your brands persona although you’re restricted to the format of the social media platform your posting to you still have creative control over the voice and tone of your content therefore when your planning out your content revisit your brands personas to make sure your message stays close to the style and theme as possible.
